More of The Big Dogs of May - Dachshund complete!

Heya Friends!

Significant progress here, the Dachshund build is complete.

Does having the comparison of an Early and a Late, advanced machine make the differences easier to identify?

Just a rough list, but as you go through the accompanying photos see if you can find;

1. Larger computer housing at the back of the head for a bigger brain. Yes really, that's the cool backstory.

2. Elongated snout for additional, advanced recon-gathering sensors.

3. Larger feet with stabilizers.

4. Larger, shoulder pauldron armor.

5. Additional engine cover plate.

6. Twin Panzershreck launchers.

7. Chin Guard Armor.

So that's going from an Early Type to the Late Type. Yes, there is an interim type named the Kypklop that only features upgrades 1, 3, 4, and 6 at my best understanding now. These machines (kits) also feature the theme of rapid advancement and upgrades between battles on Earth and the moon so there is also back and forth between those versions as well. I hope to be able to provide this reference for you, it does make a nifty story. For example, I believe many of the first upgrades were introduced as the Großer Hund was first launched to the moon as the "Altair" version. Yes, Altair IV was the name of the fictional setting for Forbidden Planet and Kow Yokoyama Sensei is a big fan of both the movie and Robby the Robot. There may be a connection. ^^

The kits are medium challenging. Quite a jump up from the MK44 for example but nowhere near the complexity of the Camel or Lunadiver Stingray from the same maker, Hasegawa models. One compliment I'd like to give them is that the new parts that were added in the last 2 or so years such as upgrade #2, the elongated snout are significantly improved over the parts released back in 2011. The injection lines are much finer. The fit is very close such as the face plate that inserts into the snout. It's nice to find improvements like this.

As mentioned in a previous post, I'd like to paint it in a Winter Camouflage scheme to further contrast this second build. Early in Summer, Late in Winter.

Now back to finishing up the groundwork on the Early Großer Hund.

Thanks! Linc

P.S. Did you notice I made sure ALL the hydraulic cables are attached this time? :)
