Wet Blending Acrylic Lacquers with Lincoln Wright

Hand brushed Mr Color wet blending on my Maschinen Krieger Dark Snake Eye scale model kit!

Hello friends, here’s something new I can share with you, wet blending acrylic lacquer paints. Yes it’s difficult, yes it’s stupid to even think about doing this and yes it turned out great, well at least good enough that I am not crying myself to sleep.

Why? I really didn’t like something about the airbrush finish. The color is beautiful and it’s smooth but it just doesn’t feel right to me. I desperately wanted more texture and visual interest.

So here’s how it looks on the airbrush side and here’s this side after a quick test of my plan. Yep, I like it enough feel it’s not a complete ruin, let’s run with it.

Yes, this is somewhat similar to wet building with water based acrylics albeit with the added cost AND benefit of the lacquer thinner reactivating the underlayers. Let’s see if I can walk the fine line here between disaster and sucess and make something cool. Well, at least not have it be an epic fail after such a fine airbrush start!

Hope it’s useful and interesting for you,

Linc
